How to secure your bike shop from thieves

Last year saw a tangible increase in thieves targeting bike shops and cycling retailers with the aim of stealing high end bikes, including e-bikes. For example, Cycling Weekly reported a spate of robberies across the UK last summer with hundreds of bikes worth over £100,000 in total stolen. That’s why, here at Secure House, we’ve come up with a few ways in which you can secure your bike shop from thieves!

Cycling retailers

The popularity of cycling continues to rise with more and more of us taking up cycling thanks to the success of British riders in the Tour de France and cycling enthusiasts flocking to watch events such as the Tour de Yorkshire and the Tour of Britain. Retailers are rightly concerned that more break-ins are on the cards so it’s time to fight back and secure all bike shop fronts to prevent further losses that could put you out of business.

At Secure House we have a huge amount of experience working with high street retailers to protect their stores and merchandise against a range of attacks. These attacks include moped ‘ram raids’ and thieves using repeated blows with heavy-duty sledgehammers to try to smash their way in a specific store.

Black edition

Here at Secure House we are big fans of luxurious, bespoke ironmongery to add the perfect finishing touch to the hundreds of different security doors we design and install.

Design is, of course, totally subjective which is why we’ve always offered our clients a wide range of ironmongery and door furniture to enable them to add their own personal stamp to their front door. Having said that, black remains the most popular colour for front doors and it’s now an option when it comes to ironmongery.

All your favourite designs and styles but now available in black

Teaming up with Germany’s Karcher Design, leaders in contemporary door and window hardware, we’re now able to offer their full ‘black edition’ range of ironmongery and accessories. Each product is manufactured to the very highest German quality standard, just like our doors that are also tested in Germany to the highest industry standards. So, that’s all your favourite designs and styles but now available in black as well!

The finish of all of these products is exceptional. The finish is applied electrostatically as a power coating, the procedure doesn’t use any solvents thus creating an eco-friendly product. All of the door handles are scratch-proof and highly resistant to corrosion, and their surface feels luxuriously warm and smooth to touch. Some have a textured finish too for a unique touch sensation!

‘Black edition’ handles

We are also very proud to be able to offer ‘black edition’ handles that feature fingerprint recognition systems for smart security doors that use products from ekey biometric systems GmbH.

Here are a few examples to give you an idea of just what’s available with the ‘black edition’ range – how good do they all look?!

Beating the moped thieves

Last year on London’s streets, over 12,000 crimes were committed by so-called moped thieves stealing mobile phones and hand-bags from pedestrians going about their business in the capital.

The Met Police have come down hard these violent criminals and are often resorting to chasing and knocking the individuals off their bikes in a bid to reduce this type of crime.

Our service can stop smash & grab moped thieves in their tracks

Made in Chelsea’s Spencer Matthews has been caught up in a smash-and-grab attack by a moped-riding gang at a jeweller’s in London.

The reality TV star had to hide in the shop’s vault after the armed robbers struck, driving their mopeds at the store and smashing its windows with large hammers.

Supersize is go!

Windows are the eyes of any home. And it seems that those eyes are getting bigger and bigger as more and more homeowners and architects opt for supersize glass in their houses. Supersize glass is go!

Supersize glass is certainly not new when it comes to commercial buildings. It’s not unusual to see offices and retail stores with large glazed windows, so it’s no surprise that it’s now made the leap to residential properties. And the trend is towards the bigger the better.

Security doors with facial recognition systems from Secure House

Unlock your front door…with your face!

Smart home security is undoubtedly a multi-million pound business. From surveillance cameras and video doorbells, to steel security doors and automated secure window shutters, there is a wide variety of products on the market all designed to deter intruders and prevent them from gaining access to our property.

There are many different ways we can protect our homes and choosing a security door is still one of the most effective. Fitting the door with a high quality, multi-point locking system is also imperative. But how about combining all of that and installing a fully motorised security door with facial recognition?

Facial recognition is one of the fastest growing smart home security products with more and more homeowners considering its application.

It’s all about facial recognition

From 18th to 20th June we exhibited at IFSEC International 2019 at ExCeL in London. Whilst at the show, we were pleased to see an ever-increasing interest in facial recognition for added home security.

As pioneers of facial recognition, we were keen to display a working example of a fully motorised security door with facial recognition. It generated a huge interest amongst everyone who visited our stand. As a result, several people asked us to visit their homes after the show to discuss bespoke options.

There are many benefits to having a security door with facial recognition. You don’t need keys for a start, nor does entry require a finger print. The door is automatically locked and unlocked with your face. The inclusion of multiple faces is also an option to allow easy access for family members as required.

So, take a look at our fully motorised security door with facial recognition system in action at IFSEC 2019!

IFSEC is one of the world’s leading international security shows. As one of the top brands in the UK security industry, we were proud to take part in this year’s exhibition – we’ll be back in 2020!

Want to find out more about the facial recognition systems we offer? Or if you’d like more information on any of our other highly sought-after products, please contact us.

How does a facial recognition system work?

Often referred to as biometric technology, facial recognition systems work by taking an image of a face and ‘predicting’ whether the face matches another face stored within the system itself. The technology compares the data and accurately provide potential matches irrespective of facial expression.

Facial recognition systems rely on a smart camera, usually installed within the security door itself, that will associate an individual face with an individual identity. In order to implement successful facial recognition, you must first programme the system by informing it which face belongs to which name. Anyone you want to authorise to enter your home – family, friends or colleagues – must have a profile in the system before they can use the system.

Many systems also include an alarm that will notify you if someone walks up to your home and tries to gain entry, day or night.

Benefits of implementing a facial recognition system

Implementing a security door with a facial recognition system brings with it numerous benefits.

  • No keys are required. Just ask yourself how many times you’ve lost, misplaced or forgotten your door key and the advantage of not needing them is immediately clear!
  • High degree of accuracy. The system will accurately determine whether the person trying to enter the property matches the database of people pre-authorised to enter. If not, an alarm will sound alerting people to the potential intruder.
  • Time saving automation. The inclusion of multiple faces is an option with most systems. This facilitates easy access for all family members as required. And there’s no need to answer the doorbell!

Facial recognition systems are highly affordable and can be combined with a huge range of different styles, sizes and models of security door. If you’re looking for a really smart technology that will help you to protect loved ones and offer unrivalled peace of mind, investing in a motorised security door with a facial recognition system is an absolute must.

Security doors for remote areas from Secure House

Security doors in remote areas

We often receive calls enquiring about installing security doors in homes, offices and other premises located in remote areas.

Achieving a higher than usual level of security is paramount in such locations since there may be no-one in the vicinity for days on end, thus giving would-be intruders the opportunity to gain unfettered access without ever being noticed.
