Penthouse apartment door upgrade
The team here at Secure House was delighted to be appointed to upgrade several high-end penthouse apartment doors with brand new, high security FD60 (60 minutes fire rated doors) front doors and FD30 (30 minutes fire rated doors) internal apartment doors.
You might be wondering what FD30 rated fire doors is and FD60 rated fire doors actually are. Well, here’s a simple explanation.
FD30 refers to the fact that the door has been tested to withstand a fire and flames for up to 30 minutes.
And a fire door carries an FD60 rating denotes that it has been tested to withstand fire for up to 60 minutes – that’s a whole hour of being subjected to flames.

Meet UK Building Regulations with our penthouse doors
It’s important to note, when it comes to installing penthouse doors (since the building is multiple occupancy) we recommend either FD30 or FD60 doors. What’s more, all of our FD30 and FD60 doors are selected specifically to meet, and often exceed, UK Building Regulations Part B. This means that they will perform in the event of a fire but they will also look incredible in any residential setting – there is absolutely no compromise on design or style.
Exotic veneer options
With this particular penthouse project, the client tasked our design and installation teams with maintaining the aesthetic of the original door and enhancing the finish to provide a more luxurious look and feel.
We’re very used to replacing existing doors with a product that not only performs better than the original but also complements it wherever possible. As such, we discussed exotic veneer options with the client, and they were delighted with the options we have available.
Over the last few years, we have curated a wide range of veneers and luxury finishes which are suitable for both external and internal doors.
After several discussions on design, colour and finish, the client chose our Milano Ebony veneer with its stunning deep matt black background and subtle golden streaks – it’s absolutely beautiful and extremely striking and whenever we’ve used it previously, our clients have immediately received positive comments from visitors to their home!
The ultimate in secure access
As well as designing, manufacturing and installing the new front door to the property, we also included a state-of-the-art fingerprint scanning system and fob reader with its own keypad for the ultimate level of security.
This facilitates highly secure but instant one-touch access for the client and anyone whom they choose to add to the security system.
The new door was further enhanced with beautiful bespoke ironmongery which we sourced from a luxury French brand.
The bronze handles perfectly complement the opulence of the Milano Ebony veneer, bringing out the golden highlights and creating an extra layer of luxe.
