The history of French doors

Obviously a design feature created in France, exterior French doors first appeared in the 17th century during the Renaissance period. Originally designed as floor to ceiling windows, the French door set of this period usually opened out onto balconies.

Adding much needed light, sunshine and fresh air into properties across France, both external and internal French doors quickly gained popularity and have since been adopted all over the world.

Take this beautiful half glazed, half solid security door installed at the back of a client’s property. It features a toughened safety glass, a multi-point locking system, a state-of-the-art fingerprint recognition and a bespoke, brushed aluminium French door pull. We are also able to provide heritage ironmongery should you wish to opt for a more traditional finish.

Fully glazed French patio doors continue to be an extremely popular choice for back and side doors simply because they are fantastic at letting light into the home. But choosing glazed doors should never mean comprising on security, far from it.

We have a huge range of off-the shelf glazed doors that all feature high security glass and we can also create bespoke double glazed French doors to any specification, which includes fitting the double doors with bullet proof glass if required.

French patio doors are always fashionable and in demand since they are so incredibly versatile, and they always look amazing in any property. But they can also be highly secure too thanks to our extensive range of security French doors.

Having been around for hundreds of years, timber French doors remain, to this day, one of the most sought-after door styles here at Secure House. We really enjoy designing and installing them for clients and this recent full-house project highlights just how incredible they look and how versatile they are.

Following a consultation with the homeowners of this stunning property in Hampstead, and a couple of site visits, working alongside the architect we manufactured no fewer than six sets of French patio doors complete with the unmistakable Georgian bars.

All of our security French doors incorporate, as standard, axe resistant P6b glass according to EN356. Each glass unit is fully resistant to both dynamic and static loads making it even more secure.

The patio doors ooze luxury and add exclusivity to this beautiful home, plus they open up the back of the house and allow the client to access the exterior and surrounding gardens effortlessly, bringing the outdoors indoors at any time!

Made using only the very highest quality steel and featuring burglar-resistant, triple security glazing throughout, each French door set provides an optimum level of safety and security for exceptional peace of mind.

Plus, the triple glazing delivers excellent thermal values to keep the property warm and cosy in the winter and cool and airy in the summer. Security, aesthetics and performance are easily combined, exactly what is required from any door and window project.

At the front of the property, the client wanted to create a truly grand entrance using intricate brickwork and a high security door that would add both style and grandeur. The decision to opt for an oversize, Georgian panel door in gloss black perfectly complements the Georgian windows and exterior French doors.

As an extra level of security, the door features a multi-point locking system with state-of-the-art fingerprint recognition. And, with its bespoke, single door knob in brushed steel, the new front door looks infinitely stylish.

Finally, we also designed and installed a high security side door in the same finish but with a Georgian bar glazed panel in the top section. This door also includes bespoke ironmongery, multi-point locking and an external security shutter for extra security protection.
